Authors Note: Animals have feelings too. Even though many people don't realize it, they may go through the most devastating scenarios ever heard of. This story showcases what kind of feelings that a dog or another animal might have to encounter during their lives.
Gravel flies into the air from each step you take as you run along the side of a dusty road. Cars are speeding past you, the rotten smell of gasoline lingering in the air. Hopes of finding food is all that you can think about as you make your way into the forest up ahead. Just as the thought of food passes through your head, a small gray mouse scurries from the dead grass on the other side of the road. Even though your mind is telling you that it’s wrong, your reflexes take over your whole body, and you find yourself running across the road the next second. Your eyes go wide and your tongue flops on the edge of your mouth as you stare at the plump mouse that is now only a few feet away. The mouse doesn’t seem to notice you as you creep closer and closer to it. But before you can take a swipe at its tiny little body, a loud and obnoxious sounding horn shrieks in alarm. At that moment, the image of the mouse drains from your vision and everything goes black.
Your eyes slowly flutter open as you try to wipe away the grogginess that overpowers your entire body. A small pool of dark red blood is splattered on the pavement, its deep reddish color stained in your fur. Looking at the wound brings back the irresistible pain, for it feels like a huge knife has been stabbed into your side. All of a sudden, you begin wheezing, unable to breath. By now your heart has tremendously slowed and your down to your last final minutes, maybe even seconds of life. Awful thoughts are soaring through your head, thoughts that are complaining about the little mouse. Then, your wheezing begins to increase, and your vision becomes blurry. You go entirely limb and slump over. Now you know that this is the end. For then, you heart beat completely stops, and your eyesight is lost. Your life is over.
This is a sad/scary story! (It is good, but you won't hear me saying I like what you chose to write about, but it is a good piece of writing. You described it really well!)
ReplyDeleteThanks. And I'm sorry it seemed scary to you. I just wanted to try something a little different than what I've done it the past.
